Die ungewöhnliche Schülerin Maria Kawaii hat eine sehr direkte und kühle Persönlichkeit, die ihr den Ruf eingebracht hat, eine Teufelin zu sein. Hinzu kommt, dass sie aus ihrer früheren Schule rausgeflogen ist, weil sie gegenüber einem Lehrer gewalttätig geworden sein soll. Da ist es natürlich keine große Überraschung, dass ihre Mitschüler sie meiden bzw. sogar mobben. Maria scheint es jedoch nicht groß zu stören, dass außer zwei Jungen aus der Klasse niemand etwas mit ihr zu tun haben will. Aber ist es ihr wirklich so egal? Und ist sie wirklich eine Teufelin?

La historia de Maria Kawai, una chica que es expulsada de un colegio de monjas de lo más pijo y acaba en una escuela publica de lo más normal. Su actitud directa y siempre preparada para lanzar criticas acidas hace que se gane la antipatía de todos rápidamente. De todos salvo dos chicos que ven algo más que ese aura de maldad y soberbia que la hace tan odiosa… Un shojo con una prota llena de mala leche que es prácticamente lo opuesto de la típica adolescente que pulula en las historia de amor de instituto de los mangas.

Maria Kawai non è proprio una ragazza come tante. Algidamente bella, forte e orgogliosa (al punto da poter sembrare altezzosa a un’occhiata superficiale), straordinariamente capace di "leggere" chiunque le si trovi davanti, e… assolutamente senza peli sulla lingua! La sua schiettezza viene però interpretata da studenti e insegnanti della scuola in cui si è appena trasferita come arroganza e mancanza di tatto, al punto da renderla subito antipatica ai più e a porla al centro di una serie di episodi di bullismo. La bellezza di un diamante grezzo si rivela solo a chi ha la pazienza di andare oltre le apparenze: fortunatamente, in mezzo a tanta superficialità, c'è anche chi capisce che dietro le apparenze Maria cela una grande sensibilità e doti speciali, come i due compagni di classe Yusuke e Shin: gioviale, espansivo e solare il primo; composto, riflessivo e un po' ruvido il secondo. Fra le doti nascoste di Maria, una voce angelica unita a una straordinaria bravura nel canto, la cui tecnica affinò nel coro della scuola cattolica precedentemente frequentata.
